Senator Morahan – Prison Closures
May 7, 2007
Senator Thomas P. Morahan
New York State Senate
Address
Re: Prison Closures
Dear Senator Morahan:
I recently read with a great deal of frustration about the talk of prison closures. It would be a great idea in which to save New York taxpayers money by merging the old into the new and to sell one jail to Sullivan County so that they do not have to spend money to build a new prison. Additionally, the State of New York should absolutely revamp the entire prison system with promises to improve on rehabilitation of prisoners in a way that will help them to obtain good jobs when they are released.
Why can’t New York become a model state? I find it absolutely absurd to think that Republicans are attempting to keep prisons open in order to keep jobs available for their constituents.

NJ Superior Court – Copy Charges

Dear Ms. Owens:
On June 8, 2000, I researched a court file in your courthouse. I wanted to make copies of 27 pages and was advised that it would cost 75 cents per page for the first ten pages, 50 cents a page for the next 10 pages, and 25 cents each for the balance. I feel that this is a pretty steep price, since it only costs 25 cents per page in the federal courthouse. This is robbery!
Please advise me who sets these prices. I was told it was done “by the state,”
but no one could say by whom, when, how, or why.
The next situation that aroused my anger was that when I came to your department, I was advised that I must have exact change to use the copier. How ridiculous!! You have a setup that looks like a bank, and you can’t keep $100 in petty cash to make change for the public?? After all, these are the people that ultimately pay your salary!
Fortunately, I had most of the pocket money. However, I had to go to the Courthouse Cafe and buy a bottle of soda in order to come up with the remainder. (In commenting on the situation to a very nice lady at the Cafe, she told me she was not allowed to make change for people unless they make a purchase. However, I don’t blame her or her boss.)
This system has been this way for far too long and it shouldn’t take a letter from me to see it change for the better. Do we need an act of the State Legislature?

Dear Mr. Williams:
I notice my retail gasoline prices increasing this week while the price at the pump is increasing. There also was never an equivalent drop in the retail cost of gasoline to the drop in oil prices in the last several months.
Could you please explain this to me a simple minded person?

The Honorable Sean Spicer,
This morning’s news has you giving in to the press and/or taking a communication job instead of dealing with these fake news correspondents.
Please Sean do not give in to them! We, the American people know how phony they are. We need you to stand up for the President and us – please!
I have to tell you that when you were first appointed I wasn’t sure about you, but now I think you are terrific. President Trump made an excellent choice. Please show us what you’re really made of inside. Hold on to your ethics and values. Don’t be swayed by other correspondents who don’t have the country’s best interest at heart. Thank you for all the ways you are supporting President Trump.
Go get them and be well.

Dear Stefani Joanne,
I had to write to tell you that your performance Sunday night at the Super Bowl was the best halftime performance I have ever seen! I’ve seen every half time for over 40 years. Your dedication and love of what you do is evident. Thank you!
Furthermore, I have loved your beautiful voice & songs for several years & I am not someone who follows or knows who most artists are. You’ve stood out because of your talent.
The patriotic input made the event spectacular! Truly you were phenomenal – beyond all others. My enthusiasm is not alone either. So many I’ve spoken to agree. Most people think writing is a waste of time but I believe giving positive feedback is vital for the success and encouragement of everyone, and yours is well deserved Stefani. Please keep the new you.

Dear Mr. Bruce Tomlinson,
How nice to see you print the article about Gail Phoebus challenging state Senator Steve Oroho. You did a wonderful job.
Why did you fail to print my complaint about Senator Steve Oroho when he so adamantly forced a 23 cent per gallon tax hike on an already over burdened & over taxed state?
It appears that Mr. Steve Oroho has little concern about my ability to stay ahead of extra taxes which has increased my living expenses by $650 per year minimum because of the increase at the pump.
He has typical political loop holes to offset that increase for himself. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by a seasoned politician who sold his soul to the political establishment.
He is a disgrace but Gail is a remarkable assemblywoman who has empathy for “We the People”. I wish you the very best, Gail.

The Honorable Josh Gottheimer,
Thank you for your quick response to my letter of February 3, 2017. For that I am pleased.
However, I haven’t heard President Trump attack women’s health at all! As a matter of fact if the democrats in the senate would move on his appointment of Mr. Price, we all might see what it is he intends to do. Why not give him a chance to become a cabinet member? Why all the political rhetoric? What a waste of valuable time & money.
I have a few other questions too. Who & where did they attack NJ health insurance? What is your recommendation? What critical environmental protections specifically do you oppose? Please make this clear.
In my opinion, your political party does not regard my core values as those of the majority of Americans, as seen from electing President Trump. In fact, it appears you and your party regularly attempt to stymie these good values. Time and time again our freedom of speech is being twisted or ignored. This is very disheartening sir.

The Honorable Jason Chaffetz,
There was a time that I really respected your choices and common sense. You were inclined toward the more rational view points. Over the last few months I have become increasingly concerned that you are not remembering who you are truly representing. You are deviating from a posture of good judgment sir.
This latest camera ego trip of yours appears to be the fault of a national security adviser to the President for speaking to his future Russian counterpart about introductory dialogue. Even though the General is a former military man, the position is new and challenging.
Didn’t you not make verbal statements you regretted when you first entered Congress? Wouldn’t it be more respectful and conscionable to give General Flynn some slack? Shouldn’t your priorities be redirected toward addressing the issues directly for the benefit of the country instead of nit picking? You’re better than that. There are so many vital areas that need to be seriously addressed in this term. Could you please start leaning toward unity instead of division? It is my strong belief that Brigham Young would have.

Dear Mr. Gary Pruit:
I read in this morning’s Times Herald Record in Newton, NJ of your organization’s pending demise. That saddens me. My grandfather was a proud contributor back in the 40’s.
Did you and your board ever consider a Fair & Balanced approach to reporting? If you did what Fox News does, your income could increase considerably. I would welcome that, as would many of my friends and family
Over the last few years, when I read the daily paper or any other paper I refuse to read any article that has your AP logo simply because it probably is slanted. Perhaps others feel the same way.
A fair and balanced approach could easily turn your organization around though. I strongly urge you to consider it before giving up completely.

Sparta, NJ 07871
Dear Senator Steve Oroho,
I spent the better part of last week driving the streets of the NJ County Roads and State Highways. Do you know how many miles they consist of? I’m not sure your numbers are correct. Do you have a clue how much it is going to cost to rebuild them? I doubt after this winter, with some having been started but not completed last fall that they can now even be repaired.
You and your cronies in the state house, especially Sen. Paul Sarlo, really squeezed your community by giving us that first increase in gas tax of 23 cents that we didn’t want and shouldn’t have needed! Then the second increase just convinced us all you don’t really have a handle on your community’s needs or how to correct problems. Instead you create more issues!
It has now been almost full two years and basically no road improvements which were supposed to come from a Transportation Trust Fund that needed building up from the gas increase could help. We STILL don’t see the results after two years!!! That 2.3 million dollar grant from NJDOT helped a little but considering each mile of NJ roads costs us one million dollars per mile. With approximately 39,000 miles of NJ public roads that’s an enormous dollar amount. So please stop touting all your wonderful help to us that is but a drop in the bucket compared to what you could and should be doing!
Now that New Jersey has the fifth highest gas tax in the country, are you happy? We’re not! The democrats in Trenton must be laughing at this. Even the republican group you mustered up to support this knows they can’t trust you now. Neither can we obviously!
I wonder what percent of those people moving out of this state would have stayed if it wasn’t for this additional tax. Maybe you can ask your colleagues on both sides of the aisle when is a tax too much? At what percent will it be clear to all of you that the government is out of control at all levels?
Sincerely,
xxxx

Dear Mr. Bob Beierle,
As always I was inspired by your June 27th, 2019 issue of “OUR TOWN”. Your refreshing words dimmed the harshness of the reflections thrown around at so many of us these days who try so hard to filter through all that harsh allegations to find a positive anything from them; even sometimes left with a bit of exasperation. Thank you for inspiring us to fight for our rights and stop the injustices pervading this wonderful country of ours. It can be done in love but holy chutzpa is often needed too.
(Holy chutzpah is to bring glory to God’s name and not for one’s own personal gain. This is what drove Yeshua to turn over the tables in the outer courts of the Temple (John 2:15). Zeal for His Father’s House consumed Him (Psalm 69:9; John 2:17), and it displayed itself as chutzpah.)
I totally agree that we need to begin to merit our politicians only on what they DO, not what they say or promise to do. Anyone can talk the talk. Not many can walk the walk. We DO have the right to make everything the politicians say and do our business! We ARE America! We DO pay their salaries! We decide who is voted in!
Folks let’s make intelligent choices. Really get to know what your politicians stand for based on their past actions and voting records not what they say or what others say about them. Do your homework. This is vital for the future of our great country – to develop more backbone and rise above all this nonsensical immature backbiting with little or no truth behind it.
You’re right! The travesties that are taking place in these cities and towns sicken most of us. Stand up and be counted people to stop the ILLEGALS from stealing from us and raping this beautiful land! It’s a no brainer if you just take the time to really look. How many of us would willingly hand over our homes, land and possessions to someone who tried to steal from us? My guess is; none! Why vote in politicians who think this ok? All are welcome if they come LEGALLY.
True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth, universal brotherhood and good will, and a constant and earnest striving toward the principles and ideals on which this country was founded.
Eleanor Roosevelt
It took time to get to where we are today; stripped of so many ethics and morals inclusive of a backwards way of thinking from when our country was founded. My point is; if it has taken time to move so far away from those rights it will take time to generate a desire for those same morals and ethics to return so let’s all get going and find ways to speak the truths – the REAL truths; not misleading statements bent on manipulating us in order to confuse and attempt to make people believe they are for the common good. There is no common good in stealing or raping. It’s my firm belief that we’ve come so far from the REAL truth that many cannot even see it as real truth anymore.
Let’s covenant with the Lord and our fellow man to resolve to help reformulate gentleness, kindness, courteousness, real patriotism, honor, level headed thinking, common sense, self control, love, and goodness with a peaceful motive. With prayer as our honor guard and the Lord as our King it can be accomplished.
May the world see America as a strong vibrant true democracy once again and may we be the cogs that turn the wheels of true justice and patriotism honoring our fallen heroes in the process but also honoring those who serve us today to begin to redeem us as a nation. A heart felt thank you to all our service personnel and their families.
We need to be powered by prayer and the people, not by government agendas or politicians with their own subjective ideas that could ultimately ruin our true democracy for future generations.
If we don’t create an exchange of understanding as to what real patriotism is with our fellow man, especially our young people, right now, shame on us for dropping the ball. The young don’t fully understand because they haven’t experienced enough REAL goodness or common sense when listening to the liberal political arenas.
Let’s also help them to see, to hear, to understand and give credit to the real heroes of our day. They’re out there. Step forward – all of you and be counted – PLEASE! Show them what real integrity is so they too can strive for it and incorporate a hard work ethic that was pronounced in previous generations!
Thank you again Bob for persevering and fighting the good fight. God bless you and Dorothy. God bless America.
Happy Independence Day!
Very Truly Yours,
xxxx
