The Smell of Rain

By |2019-06-08T03:03:43+00:00June 8th, 2019|Uncategorized|

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallas as the doctor walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery. Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest  news. That afternoon of March 10, 1991, complications had forced Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver couple’s new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already knew she was perilously premature. Still, the doctor’s soft words dropped like bombs.

“I don’t think she’s going to make it,” he said, as kindly as he could.

“There’s only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then, if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one”

Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived.

She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation, and on and on.

“No! No!” was all Diana could say.

She and David, with their 5- year-old son Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become a family of four. Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away. But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana. Because Dana’s underdeveloped nervous system was  essentially ‘raw’, the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort, so they couldn’t even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests to offer the strength of their love.

All they could do, as Dana struggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the tangle of tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay close to their precious little girl. There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger.

But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of strength there. At last, when Dana turned two months old. her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital, just as her mother had predicted.

Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life. She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from the end of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in Irving, Texas, Dana was sitting in her mother’s lap in the bleachers of a local ball park where her brother Dustin’s baseball team was practicing. As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent. Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, “Do you smell that?”

Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm, Diana replied, “Yes, it smells like rain.”

Dana closed her eyes and again asked, “Do you smell that?”

Once again, her mother replied, “Yes, I think we’re about to get wet. It smells like rain.”

Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced, “No, it smells like Him. It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest.”

Tears blurred Diana’s eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play with the other children.

Before the rains came, her daughter’s words confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family had known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she remembers so well.

Thoughts from a Hipster Coffee Shop… – Alyssa Ahlgren

Alyssa Ahlgren

April 6, 2019

I’m sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of Democratic candidates calling for policies to “fix” the so-called injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue to look around. I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook’s, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we’ve become completely blind to it.

Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don’t give them a second thought. We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times. Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful.

Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, “An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity.”

Never saw American prosperity. Let that sink in. When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I’ve ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Now, I’m not attributing Miss Ocasio-Cortez’s words to outright dishonesty. I do think she whole-heartedly believes the words she said to be true. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided. My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let’s just say I didn’t have the popular opinion, but I digress.

Let me lay down some universal truths really quick. The United States of America has lifted more people out of abject poverty, spread more freedom and democracy, and has created more innovation in technology and medicine than any other nation in human history. Not only that but our citizenry continually breaks world records with charitable donations, the rags to riches story is not only possible in America but not uncommon, we have the strongest purchasing power on earth, and we encompass 25% of the world’s GDP. The list goes on. However, these universal truths don’t matter. We are told that income inequality is an existential crisis (even though this is not an indicator of prosperity, some of the poorest countries in the world have low-income inequality), we are told that we are oppressed by capitalism (even though it’s brought about more freedom and wealth to the most people than any other system in world history), we are told that the only way we will acquire the benefits of true prosperity is through socialism and centralization of federal power (even though history has proven time and again this only brings tyranny and suffering).

Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country. People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they’ve never seen prosperity, and as a result, elect politicians dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism. Why? The answer is this, my generation has ONLY seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn’t live in the great depression, or live through two world wars, or see the rise and fall of socialism and communism. We don’t know what it’s like not to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don’t have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it’s spreading like a plague.

With the current political climate giving rise to the misguided idea of a socialist utopia, will we see the light? Or will we have to lose it all to realize that what we have now is true prosperity? Destroying the free market will undo what millions of people have died to achieve.

My generation is becoming the largest voting bloc in the country. We have an opportunity to continue to propel us forward with the gifts capitalism and democracy has given us. The other option is that we can fall into the trap of entitlement and relapse into restrictive socialist destitution. The choice doesn’t seem too hard, does it?

How Do Civil Wars Happen – Daniel Greenfield

By |2020-01-29T17:37:07+00:00June 3rd, 2019|Culture Wars, History, Opinion|

Two or more sides disagree on who runs the country. And they can’t
settle the question through elections because they don’t even agree
that elections are how you decide who’s in charge. That’s the basic
issue here. Who decides who runs the country? When you hate each other
but accept the election results, you have a country. When you stop
accepting election results, you have a countdown to a civil war.

The Mueller investigation is about removing President Trump from
office and overturning the results of an election. We all know that.
But it’s not the first time they’ve done this. The first time a
Republican president was elected this century, they said he didn’t
really win. The Supreme Court gave him the election. There’s a pattern
here.

What do sure odds of the Democrats rejecting the next Republican
president really mean? It means they don’t accept the results of any
election that they don’t win. It means they don’t believe that
transfers of power in this country are determined by elections. That’s
a civil war.

There’s no shooting. At least not unless you count the attempt to kill
a bunch of Republicans at a charity baseball game practice. But the
Democrats have rejected our system of government.

This isn’t dissent. It’s not disagreement You can hate the other
party. You can think they’re the worst thing that ever happened to the
country. But then you work harder to win the next election. When you
consistently reject the results of elections that you don’t win, what
you want is a dictatorship.

Your very own dictatorship.

The only legitimate exercise of power in this country, according to
Democrats, is its own. Whenever Republicans exercise power, it’s
inherently illegitimate. The Democrats lost Congress. They lost the
White House. So what did they do? They began trying to run the country
through Federal judges and bureaucrats. Every time that a Federal
judge issues an order saying that the President of the United States
can’t scratch his own back without his say so, that’s the civil war.

Our system of government is based on the constitution, but that’s not
the system that runs this country. The Democrat’s system is that any
part of government that it runs gets total and unlimited power over
the country.

If the Democrats are in the White House, then the president can do
anything. And I mean anything. He can have his own amnesty for illegal
aliens. He can fine you for not having health insurance. He can use
the IRS as his own police force and imprison citizens who speak
against him. He can provide guns and money (Fast and Furious) (Iran
nuclear deal) to other countries to support his own agenda, and watch
while one of America’s Ambassador’s is dragged through the streets and
murdered doing nothing to aid our citizens. His power is unlimited.
He’s a dictator.

But when Republicans get into the White House, suddenly the President
can’t do anything. He isn’t even allowed to undo the illegal alien
amnesty that his predecessor illegally invented. A Democrat in the
White House has ‘discretion’ to completely decide every aspect of
immigration policy. A Republican doesn’t even have the ‘discretion’ to
reverse him. That’s how the game is played That’s how our country is
run. Sad but true, although the left hasn’t yet won that particular
fight.

When a Democrat is in the White House, states aren’t even allowed to
enforce immigration law. But when a Republican is in the White House,
states can create their own immigration laws. Under Obama, a state
wasn’t allowed to go to the bathroom without asking permission. But
under Trump, Jerry Brown can go around saying that California is an
independent republic and sign treaties with other countries. The
Constitution has something to say about that.

Whether it’s Federal or State, Executive, Legislative or Judiciary,
the left moves power around to run the country. If it controls an
institution, then that institution is suddenly the supreme power in
the land. This is what I call a moving dictatorship.

Donald Trump has caused the Shadow Government to come out of hiding:
Professional government is a guild. Like medieval guilds. You can’t
serve in if you’re not a member. If you haven’t been indoctrinated
into its arcane rituals. If you aren’t in the club. And Trump isn’t in
the club. He brought in a bunch of people who aren’t in the club with
him.

Now we’re seeing what the pros do when amateurs try to walk in on
them. They spy on them, they investigate them and they send them to
jail. They use the tools of power to bring them down.

That’s not a free country.

It’s not a free country when FBI agents who support Hillary take out
an ‘insurance policy’ against Trump winning the election. It’s not a
free country when Obama officials engage in massive unmasking of the
opposition. It’s not a free country when the media responds to the
other guy winning by trying to ban the conservative media that
supported him from social media. It’s not a free country when all of
the above collude together to overturn an election because the guy who
wasn’t supposed to win did.

Have no doubt, we’re in a civil war between conservative volunteer
government and a leftist Democrat professional government.

Make sure you vote on every Election day!

An Interesting Obituary

By |2019-06-03T20:02:41+00:00June 3rd, 2019|History|

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the
University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the
Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

A democracy is always Temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent
Form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until
The time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous
Gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority
Always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from
The public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally
Collapse over a loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by Dictatorship.

The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the
Beginning of history, has been about 200 years.  During those 200
Years, these nations always progressed through this sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

Photo of the Year!

By |2019-06-03T19:47:08+00:00June 3rd, 2019|Uncategorized|

It was considered the best photo of this century. A lioness and her cub were crossing the Savannah but the heat was excessive and the cub was in great difficulty walking.

An elephant realized that the cub would die and carried him in his trunk to a pool of water walking beside his mother.

And we call them wild animals.

It’s a great lesson for mankind who are fighting and dying for no reason and who seem to get meaner all the time.

School Prayer Proposal

By |2019-05-26T01:37:44+00:00May 20th, 2019|Opinion|

With Trump as President, we might be able to get this passed. Let’s send it across the country.

Will I Get Three Replies?

I’m sending this to a variety of friends & family to see what kind of opinions this might bring forth.

SOME STATES (Maryland, Michigan & Arizona) ARE ALLOWING MUSLIM STUDENTS TO PRAY DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

IF THEY ALLOW THAT, THEN WE SHOULD BRING BACK OUR FLAGS INTO THE CLASSROOMS AND ALLOW OTHERS TO PRAY TOO! TIME FOR THE CHRISTIANS TO SPEAK UP & DEMAND THEIR RIGHTS.

When we get 100,000,000, that’s one hundred million, willing Christians to BOND together, voice their concerns and vote, we can take back Americawith God’s help.

Become one of the One hundred million. Then let’s get 200 million. It can be done just by sending this email to your friends.

Do the math. It only takes a single willing heart and a fed-up SOUL. God Bless America and Shine your light on Her!

In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a “National Day of Prayer.”

In 1988 President Reagan designated the firstThursday in May of each year as The National Day of Prayer.

In June 2007, then Presidential Candidate Barack Obama declared that the USA “Was no longer a Christian nation.”

In May 2009 President Obama dismissed our 21st annual National Day of Prayer ceremony at the White House under the ruse of “not wanting to offend anyone.”

Sept. 25, 2009, a Muslim Prayer Day was held on the West front of the U.S. Capitol Building, the site where U.S. Presidents have been inaugurated since 1981. There were over 50,000 Muslims in D.C. that day President Obama dismissed our National Day of Prayer and now it is okay for an event at our capitol for Islamists?

I for one was offended. But wait, it did not stop!!!

February 17-19, 2015, a Muslim prayer was recited at the start of the second day of the White House summit on “Countering Violent Extremism,” but no other religious text was presented during the portion of the event that was open to the press. Imam Sheikh Sa’ad Musse Roble, president of the World Peace Organization in Minneapolis, Minn., recited a “verse from the Quran” following remarks by Obama administration officials and Democrat members of Congress.

Former President Obama encouraged schools to teach the Quran for extra credit, while at the same time, we cannot even talk about the Bible, God, pray, or salute the American Flag.

The direction this country was headed should strike fear in the heart of every Christian.

How refreshing and beautiful our First Lady Melania Trump was in Melbourne, Florida on February 18, 2017. Instead of the normal “pumping up” of the crowd, Melania chose to start the rally off with the Lord’s Prayer. It sounded more like the start of a football game after the National Anthem rather than what we would expect to hear after a prayer.

Make a “joyful noise unto the LORD thy GOD!” The “sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity” of Madeline Murray O’Hair and ACLU efforts in 1962, “School Prayer was removed from the U.S. public education system by slowly changing the meaning of the First Amendment through a number of court cases over several court cases should be confronted and reversed.

Send this to ten people, or even one hundred and ten, and send it to the person who sent it to you! To let them know that indeed, it was sent out to many more.

The Electoral College: How It Fairly Represents the US

By |2019-05-20T20:02:40+00:00May 20th, 2019|2016, Trump|

In their infinite wisdom, the United States’ Founders created the
Electoral College to ensure the STATES were fairly represented. Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the whole of the nation?

The following list of statistics has been making the rounds on the
Internet. It should finally put an end to the argument as to why the
Electoral College makes sense.

This needs to be widely known and understood.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.

Trump won 3,084 of them.

Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.

Trump won 46 of them.

Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond)

Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton
winning the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.

The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) DO NOT and SHOULD NOT speak for the rest of our country!

And it’s been verified and documented that those aforementioned 319 square miles are where the majority of our nation’s problems foment.

An Anecdote on Government

By |2019-05-20T19:26:20+00:00May 20th, 2019|Opinion|

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in Montana when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni® suit, Gucci® shoes, RayBan® sunglasses and YSL® tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, “If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?”
Bud looks at the man, who obviously is a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, “Sure, why not?”

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell® notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3® cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop® and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany …Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot® that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL® database through an ODBC connected Excel® spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry® and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet® printer, turns to the cowboy and says, “You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves.”

“That’s right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves,” says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the young man, “Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?”
The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, “Okay, why not?”

“You’re a Congressman for the U.S. Government”, says Bud.

“Wow! That’s correct,” says the yuppie, “but how did you guess that?”

“No guessing required.” answered the cowboy. “You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don’t know a thing about how working people make a living – or about cows, for that matter.

This is a herd of sheep. Now give me back my dog.
AND THAT FOLKS IS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS ALL ABOUT

Letters from a Reader: Lessons from Argentina on Socialism

By |2019-02-19T00:24:28+00:00February 19th, 2019|International|

Scott is a high school classmate.  His 100-year-old friend has wisdom from his personal experience and observation.

I met Jack last year on an ocean cruise.  He was turning 100 at the time.  He’s going on 101 next month !  I asked him about the link you sent me, in a prior email,  with respect to Argentina’s downfall.  Venezuela on the same track … perhaps worse!  Attached is his reply.

Hello Scott. Yes, I was born in Argentina in 1918 and of British descent. My parents were also born in Argentina and my youth was enjoyed by the vast riches of that Country. After 5 years in war time Britain, as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, I returned to a very different Argentina, with Juan Domingo Peron and his call girl wife, Eva Peron running the show. Socialism was rampant, performance was in ruins, the Civil Service exploded and inflation became rampant. I worked for 6 years as an airline pilot 1946/1952 and realized the corruption and inefficiency of Government and left for Canada. To me, at that time, this country was a dream. Now, under Trudeau, socialism is being adopted with a vengeance. Every time a politician promises, he is going to do it with YOUR money. When the population is broke, he (the Government) prints more money with goods and housing  becoming unaffordable.

I am afraid the USA, which was a very rich Country is following Argentina’s plight. Great Companies like GE and GM are being undercut. Living and sponging off tax payer money leads to drastic effects.
I shook hands with Peron and was called to appear before Evita, who headed the labor movement and who more than anybody else, bankrupted the country.

A very involved subject, Scott. Your country is undergoing phenomenal change and no longer is the example of the world. Sad but true. You are all fighting each other openly and this has become the top priority. The big picture displayed to the world is that USA is no longer UNITED. Socialism’s grizzly head is gaining support glaringly and unfortunately.

At age 101 I have seen enormous universal changes. Extreme progress and development and on the other hand, devastating mismanagement  I wish you every best luck, Scott, and may somebody emerge to lead your Country to the greatness of heretofore.

Sincerely,

Jack

Amazing Trump Speech to United Nations

By |2019-02-19T00:12:48+00:00February 19th, 2019|International|

One of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. It’s about 34 minutes long and so worth it.

https://www.onenewspage.com/video/20180926/10832856/President-Trump-Full-Speech-To-UN-2018.htm

God bless and protect our President, Vice President and their families.

Here’s one very short part of the speech. I can’t guarantee this is a direct quote (my shorthand suffers) but it is very close to exact – thus I felt the need for the quotes.

“The United States believes in majesty of freedom, dignity of the individual, self government, the rule of law, a culture that sustains liberty, strong family, and deep faith. We support fierce independence, celebrate our heroes, and love our country.” President Donald Trump 9-26-18 to the United Nations at the General Assembly
