It seems these days voters are almost nauseous at the thought of going to the polls in November and casting their vote for someone who may be our next president. The options thus far had been Trump or Clinton, a truly sad option, with some seeing Gary Johnson as a last hope (who’s running for president…again. He’s certainly determined). Between Never Trump and Never Hillary, a new option has come and it’s not Gary Johnson or….gulp…Jill Stein. No this new candidate is Evan McMullin.

Utah native, born in 1976, and a Mormon, McMullin and served overseas in the Middle East as part of his work with the CIA. Clearly running as an Independent, he is a strong Conservative and part of the anti-Trump movement. He is there to let Americans know they have another choice.

Although he’s getting attention now, Politico reports that he has already missed ballot filing deadlines in a number of states, leaving his chances slim to none and describes McMullin’s candidacy as a far-fetched move by anti-Trump conservatives.

McMullin believes in fighting the problems of radical Islam head on, but remembering our American ideals, which cannot be compromised.  He has a strong sense of support for the military, making sure that our troops have the latest technology at their disposal and are equipped for the fight ahead.

Bellow are some issues and opinions McMullins shares:

  • Reforming the economy, making it easier for Americans to find work, and making the tax code simpler.
  • Free Marker competition for Healthcare and repeal of Obamacare
  • Shifting back on Executive Powers and encouraging stronger Constitutional adherence of separation of powers
  • Trade is good
  • Pro-Second Amendment
  • Secure the border first, then have an open discussion on the subject, path to legal residence for law abiding citizens
  • For legal immigration, preference given to people who bring unique skills to the country

As can be seen above, most of these beliefs are decently conservative and echo a lot of what has been said by the Never Trump groups. Sadly, he doesn’t have concrete plans laid out on how he plans to accomplish some of the things he’s promising. But he wouldn’t be the first.

Vice News reports, he is probably the least experienced political candidate, though with more experience than Donald Trump. “The 40-year old has never held elected office and has served most recently as the Republican policy director for the House of Representatives.” That’s also after spending 11 years working with the CIA. Knowledge and experience do count for something and given his years working abroad and with the House of Representatives, he does have political experience. Holding office doesn’t necessarily mean much.

Earlier in his career “McMullin worked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to vet and resettle refugees from the Middle East and Africa.” As reports Vice News. This gives him a first hand look at the resettlement process and the vetting of refugees. If he manages to get on the ballots and makes it to the debate stage, he could be a formidable foe for Donald Trump. His campaigners better be up for a long road ahead.
